Sukkari
The word sukkari is literally translated as 'sugar' which may speak for itself regarding this delectable date.
Consider their pseudonym; The 'Royal date' and you soon get an impression of what these delicious dates are all about.
However, sweetness is not all they have to offer; Their flavours are relatively mild and comparable to Butterscotch with subtle hints of toffee and popcorn.
The texture of a Sukkari date differs depending whether you encounter them in one of two states; either ' Rutab ' which means fresh, or ' Mufatal ' which means dried.
Both are delicious in their own right and surprisingly the dried version of this date is more prized and demands a higher price than its younger self.. unlike many varieties where only the fresh 'rutab' are considered valuable.
the flavour changes slightly depending which you try; the sweetness becoming more subtle when the sugars have crystallised with mufatal and the 'toffee popcorn' description becomes more obvious.
A Rutab Sukkari can be extremely sticky and soft barely needing to be chewed which is great for those with weaker teeth.
The Sukkari Mufatal is considered something of a delicacy and is especially enjoyed mid afternoon accompanied by a rich, dark coffee.
